I have bought a tin-top with the idea of doing a few track days this year.
If the car is tip top and I dont break it what can I expect to pay for the day. And what sort of track time do you get ?
So far I am thinking
£130 for track day itself
£50 Transport to track and back (trailer/fuel)
£50 fuel on track ???????? just a guess
What elts ?
How longs a set of tyres and pads going to last ?
just an idea is what I am after.
What car are you going to use?
Car details?
Some track days are only £99 if your lucky.
mg zs 180
Top priced food and drink unless you take your own
The ones I've done cost me about that - maybe a bit more on fuel but then they were both a round trip of 150-200 miles plus what I did on the
track.
Stu
ps plus the cost of the camera to film it!
what about insurance???
ive got a 2 litre track day Fiesta and try do about 8/year
if first one i would sudgest trying something like a Motorsport vision Novice day, thay are cheaper as sessioned at £99-£139 you generally get 20min
on track them 40 off benefit is you wont feel pressured into making mistake by someone else, and all in the same boat as normally can only do 3 novice
trackdays.
track days vary from winter £49-£169+ more for silverstone brands ful circuits
Transport to track and back totally depend on location of track you go to and if you already have a trailer
£50 fuel on track is about right for a open pit lane track day as you can spend as much time as you like in track, bit less for sessioned.
tyres, for a start decent, not new road tyres ok, can easy do 3-4circuit track days but if concrete airfield day can do a set in a day
Pads will again depend on what you use but ive done last 5 day on a set of mintex but two sets of discs
also what you want to spend on the car to get on track, seat harnes etc,
then when you get hooked as much as you can afford, remember its not competative but more power you have the more you want, then there is rollcages,
suspension, brake upgrades
when you going to book a day post up a link and ask if any others going, its usefull to be around others for info and knowledge.
Most of all enjoy it, and wet track days are also fun in a tin top as learn lot more about car control at a lower speed.
if anything goes wrong or have a incident the the cost is dependant
edit - As for insurance ive not taken out any on track insurance, bit at risk job, think depends on what you are using, a £1500 fiesta or a £30k 911
when i enquired about insurance the reasonable cost ones had a £1k excess for the first 3 track days anyway

I dont know how track insurance works but I doubt its viable.
How does it work if I damage some one elts car ? Am I responsable ?
All owners are responsible for their own vehicles. So if you hit someone it's up to you if you want to pay for their car or not... Insurance will
only cover your car.
I'd agree with Will121 on those costs, though your car is a bit heavier so the costs may be slightly higher. Factor in regular servicing too.
if you take a car on track and someone hits you its just one of those things. if your worried about the car getting damaged don't take it on the track.
MG ZS 180?
I had one of them... you'll need new front tyres at the end of the day. Great fun, just look out for the understeer!!!

Typical day at Lydden:
Entry £120
Fuel on track - £60 (2 tanks just about covers 8 x 20 min sessions)
Fuel there and back - £25
Tyres - 1 set of Yoko 032s lasts 3 trackdays? Less if really caning it. Now using ex-Formula Renault slicks at £60/set. Not sure how long they last
though. Assume 2 full days?
Food & drink - £5? - buy at sainsburys, and take a thermos, unless you like expensive salmonella burgers.
Brakes - had car for 4 years, done 15+ trackdays, still on original disks and second set of pads. About £5 / day?
Helmet - I bought mine, but £10 per trackday rental if you don't own one.
Incidents - likely to be expensive! Avoid if possible.
All in, it probably costs me getting on for £275 per trackday after you factor in things like regularly changing engine oil, wear and tear on
components and millions of stonechips in your paintwork.
Not sure how this scales for a tintop, likely to be harder on the brakes and front tyres I'd have thought. The above is for a 2l turbo Tiger
Super Six.
I haven't made any allowance for the inevitable upgradeitis, but that it probably the most expensive part of all!
HTH
Tom
I dont add mine up...
But as said, cost of track day £100-160ish.
Fuel on track, £40ish in the severn often.
Fuel to get there (306 towing boxtrailer)
Helmets one i was given, not new, but good cond.
For me the fuel to get theres often the biggest unpublished cost. The 306 does bugger all to the gallon with the trailer behind it so
Loughborough-Snett return ends up being £70 odd. Twice the cost of fuel on track.

Cheers all
The zs is not a dear car so I will give atleast one a go
cadwell bedford rockingham all being about 50miles away
hmmm
they also weight less than you think at sub 1300kg
