im of to look at a mondeo tommorow, its a 1997 2.0 si? didnt have a clue what it meant but a quick search shows its got quite a good spec, dont know
what will be working on it for £500 though, its done 120k, so other than the obvious, anyone have any pointers, or advice on to get it or not, its
just a runabout that i can put big stuff in the boot with really,
also, anyone have any mondeo alloy wheels lying around from a donor?

Take it for a test drive and make sure theres no knocking/rumbling/clunks from the back end.
Sub frame bushes wear out and need the whole sub frame replacing. However they are relatively cheap but make a good bargaining point.
As above, also check the heater works on all the fan settings and it has the radio code and a red key. Also check that the clutch isn't too heavy
and the gears can be selected easily when driving as that's a sign that the clutch might be on the way out, which I believe is virtually an
engine out job. If it is a Mk2 Si I had a 1997 one for 11 years, and it was a great car. Really comfortable seats, but £500 sounds a bit too much.
£400 to £450 sounds better if it is good condition.

It may not have a red key. around that year they changed to just two key fobs.
You would need both to pair any more keys up.
Bottom front wishbones, bushes go cheap job if you can do it your self.
big one is rust 
Cambelt changed.
If its had regular oil changes with good 5w30 then 120k is not a problem.
Good choice for a budget motor.
I would want a full mot for £500
cheers for the help chaps, yeah full mot and tax, ill give it a good look around.
They also have a problem with corroded brake lines particularly around the fuel tank.
I also popped the head gasket on one at 120,000 (but that was an M reg)
