Hi, my wifes car used to do loads to a tenner now its down to about 55 miles to a tenner
i serviced it about 4months ago plugs filters oil etc
i changed the idle controll vave as i had a spare
but no change
anyone know of any common faults before i get too stuck in
its cold out and im being lazy i know but i dont want to pull to much apart as we use it daily to save using the maverick which guzzles fuel even
worse
this matiz was supposed to save us money
its on a 51 plate only 45k and previous owner looked after it well too so it should do more miles than it is
any help appreciated thanks
Ray

The price of petrol going up will reduce the amount of miles you get to a tenner
I paid 108.9 the other day, which was cheaper than the 110.9 across the road. I don't think I've ever paid that much.
55 miles on £10 at 108.9 is 27 MPG - pretty poor. Are you sure your gauge is working correctly? I'd try filling to the brim, driving a full
tank full, then filling to the brim again. The take the second tank full as the number of litres used and work out your MPG. Remember, MPG is a
little lower in the winter.
A friend's daughter had a Matiz and the only problem that had was the distributor. It didn't affect the MPG apart from stopping the engine from running.
Do a compression test.
Read the fault codes -- should be fully OBD2 best to use a code reader that shows live data.

My wife's 800cc Matiz returns about 40 - 45 mpg on short-journey driving.
If yours is a 1000cc version I'd expect similar mpg, or possibly even better (you have to rev the nuts off the 800cc to get anywhere).
Temp sensor fault somewhere - meaning its fooling the ECU into running cold start enrichment? How are the plugs??
An obstructed air inlet is one of the easierst and most likely things to check
Thanks for the ideas guys
I had already considered the cost of petrol going up but its averaging 50 miles to 9 liters which is 25 to the gallon and its not a one off its been
like this for 2 months its the 800 model and we drive normally not thrashing it about
