Ebay issue

This is the first time I have had any kind of problem with an ebay seller.

Basically I won an auction last week for a knock down price of 32 quid. Its a big heavy item but he offered a price of courier delivery price of 45 quid. I asked him whether i could pick it up and he said he would prefer it if I picked it up.

I come to paypal the money and I only get the option of the price of the item plus courier. The guy says he used his sons account to sell the item and doesn't know how to "do paypal" to invoice me for only the cost of the auction without the cost of courier, his son is away at the moment so can't help.

I am keen to sort this out as I want to pay before its picked up as its a mate doing me a favour and i don't want them messing with money or refunds.

I believe the guy is genuine everything backs up what he is saying. He has 100% feedback and all the other completed sales are stuff like playstation games, GCSE study guides and stuff.

I am expecting him to say cash on collection but can I insist he invoices me for the correct amount beforehand? Not sure what to do?

Cant you just click to pay and recalculate with a subtraction of the courier price once you get to the Paypal page?? I'm sure there's the facility to do that yourself

Just ask him for the email address on the paypal account and send him the item price directly.

Or avoid the charges and pay direct into his bank, assuming you have access to online banking.


Ive had thie same issue on ebay before, I either paid his email account or bank transferred.

just be careful if you send him the cash by any other way using paypal, it won;t show on the ebay system that you've payed for your item

there is no option to recalculate without postage. only "request total" which I have done twice.

As mentioned I am very reluctant to send the payment outside ebay for the stated reasons.

Slightly o/t but sorta on

unfortunately if anyone collects any ebay item form us its cash on collection.

been ripped off twice by people paying paypal then claiming no receipt, try telling paypal they collected it, online signed for tracked delivery is the only defence against a paypal non received claim.

If I was picking it up myself, I would cash pay cash on collection, but its a mate doing me a favour.

I'll see how he goes over the next couple of days and then do cash on collection.

seller needs to revise invoice via ebay account and remove the postage costs then you will be able to pay using paypal

Go into your paypal account click on send money . fill in the details and you can even link into an ebay item number IIRC . other wise give your friend the cash . Buyers have the upper hand on feedback now as a seller can't give bad feedback anymore. Most sellers are honest and if your friend has half a brain or more he will soon smell a rat if the item is not as described . Don't try to re negotiate the price if it's not as it ought to be, simply walk away and enter an amicable dispute to cancel the sale . sellers are virtualy powerless and will conceed for an easy life . keep it calm and friendly at all times

This was my first transaction so I wasnīt familiar with the rules, I paid off e-bay, now the seller hasnīt shipped and is asking for more money to ship. I understand now that I may not get my money back, but I donīt want to put more money into it and or get bad ratings. sorry to see you had a problem . In the first instance you should only pay the paypal address you are given if that is wrong he can refund change his account settings and re-invoice you. As for asking for extra carriage that all depends on the terms and conditions laid out in his listing . If it said he would ship to Mexico and there is no mention of a suplement outside the USA then he is a bit naughty . however if he did reserve the right to make additional claim for carriage outside the USA that is fair. and $20 extra is not a lot .

for the record cotacting Ebay through thier email system is the most excruciatingly painfull waste of time ever . you never get a response quickly and it never has any real relevence when they do because they never seem to answer the question you ask just trot out a standard reply. by far the best cours of action is to go to "live chat" which is far far better and they actualy read your problem and discuss it live . you can find it on the Ebay.com home page (USA home page not UK) sign into your account , click on the live chat link and have your disputed item number ready to paste into the text box when they respond . usualy within 20 mins or so . This works even in the UK but you must be on the USA site to find the link .

Thanks for your sympathy, the real reason for this post was to reinforce the point that E-bay and PayPal rules are there for a reason.
Not abiding by them is asking for trouble.
Regarding the P&P charges they were discussed before I bid and paid, but unluckily I deleted those messages and that’s why they are not here.
The point is that he wouldnīt ship even though I paid what he stated were the shipping charges, 20 USD is not a lot, but if I pay and he doesnīt ship, itīs another 20 that I risk loosing.
I rather take this as a learning experience and not bother.
