Morning all,

Just had E-tyres out to fit new tyres to swmbo's E39 5 Series. Unfortunately, whoever fitted the last set of rears overtorqued the bolts (they're supposed to be 120 Nm, his Torque wrench at 200 was clicking off), so he had to use the breaker bar on them. Unfortunately, when he got to the locking wheel nut, it rounded the splines on the key....

so, the question: Once I've got a new key from BMW, how do I get the bolt out without rounding the new one as well?

there is a proper way to do it im sure, but i have had good resulty getting a ratchet head, maybe 15mm? then hammer it into the lockable wheel nut, the use a big breaker bar, or, take it to an enginnering company and have them take it out, dont forget to take another to replace it with for the drive home.

It's one of the ones where the splines are on the inside of a socket cap head, so I don't think a hex socket would go around it. Oxy torch maybe?

Some tyre depots have a "tool for the job" - Worth ringing a couple up and see what they say.
