When you cruise or pull away slowly then accelerate the gearbox appears to jump up and down between gears. 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd i think. It wont accelerate because of it, now if i back off and accelereate really gingerly it will pull past it once your over 2.5k it seems ok. Its as if its misfiring but not. It doesnt do it all the time. today it did it to me on the a14 at 60mph and slowed right down to 40 overtaking a lorry with a transit up my bum. Then it cleared and was ok.

i know absolutely nothing about automatics.

I do believe that the level of the transmission oil, and its condition, are vitally important to correct operation. Checking the level is a black art - usually involves running the engine for a while, then shifting the stick back and forth for a while, then checking the level.

Iv checked the level and its spot on. That was my first thought.

Sounds like you kickdown cable(s) is wrong, that would cause it to change gear erratically. Whats the car in question? I know a guy who might know a more specific answer (A Dealing man so to speak).

BMW 525 tds. Its fly by wire so the kick down is a button on the floor. It does it without using that. TBH i havent actually tried kick down when it does it to see if it pulls through it.

I'm sure the last Corsa I drove had a button on the floor as part of a two stage kick down (It had normal kickdown, though It might have been electronic, and a Button which let you rev even further) the MkII had a sport button which the latest one doesn't.

I'd still guess that Kickdown is you problem but I'll ask my guy tonight and see what he says. Have you spoken to BMW as it could be a software fault?

dont want to go near bmw tbh as i will cost muh money. Its only a 97 aswell.

An independant BMW specialist might be the best option.

Right i took it to a auto specialist today, They plugged it in and came up with no faults. He took it for a drive and didnt go wrong once

It had faulted all the way there on the 30 mile trip as soon as he gets in it its fine. GGrrrrrrrr

Theyv kept it and theyr gonna have the pan off and have a gander tomorrow so hopefully its aint anything bad. Read that expensive.
