Renault Scenic Problems

Hi all,

hopefully someone can help me with the following. we have a renault magane scenic II in for repair. the car runs very lumpy at idle (especially when cold but not always, sometimes when warm aswell.) scanner gives various fault codes concerned with VVT de-phasor and camshaft position. timing was checked and found to be slightly out, replaced timing belt and de-phasor pulley as matter of course and hoped problem would be fixed. however it is the same as ever still bringing up the de-phasor and camshaft position fault codes. cam position, map sensors tried of another vehicle and made no difference. new engine earth strap fitted. struggling to sort this - any hints??

Known issue on faulty cam position sensors, I have also heard dashboards causing similar problems.

Cheers

Did you lock the dephaser bfore fitting it? this can cause running problems. Cam sensors are fairly common on the 16v engines - look between the inlet branches on cylinders 1+2 (its the opposite way round on renaults) and you will see the sensor in the cam cover.

Is it the Mk1 Phase 2 or Mk2 (shake your ass shape).

If it's a Mk1 Phase 2 - the sensor on the passenger side of the head just above the flywheel (it goes into a hole in the top of the gearbox) is prone and known to fail.

Thats the TDC sensor, Ive never seen one cause running problems, only see them cause the car to fail to start.
