Help... My Jag XJS Fetish Has Re-Appeared!
scootz - 23/2/10 at 12:33 PM

It seems to work in 6-month cycles and passes without incident, but it's hit-hard this time! All started with that bloomin' Lister I spotted a few weeks back!

Someone please remind that I cannot have another one until I'm at least 50 and grey!

I tell you what will cure you for good - try replacing the front springs on one (even WITH the special Jaguar tool from the owner's club)!

r1_pete - 23/2/10 at 01:24 PM

I was like that with E-Types, then thought sod it, I'm only here once, can't come back and do the things I wanted to and never did, so bought one.

andyw7de - 23/2/10 at 02:14 PM

Im not that old but I am grey, (or distinguised ) as my better half calls it.

Ive not long since bought a lovely black XJR 400 supercharged horses of extreme fun.

I dont care if i should be wearing a flat cap, tweed jacket and smoke a pipe .

I love it and wish Id gone Jag years ago

carpmart - 23/2/10 at 02:15 PM

My uncle bought a brand new Tickford converted XJS in the 80's. Tickford took it out to 6 litres, new cams and some other tweaks too. It had quite a tasteful body kit on it too!

All in it was a beast of a car and is still an ultimate fantasy of mine!

My uncle was a bit of a lad and on one occasion he turned up in said Jaguar with a stunning 19 year old in the passenger seat. He was in his mid forties at this stage! Needless to say, that car and that girl became an integral part of a young mans 'nighttime fantasies'!

Sadly my uncle has passed away but the memories remain........

skinned knuckles - 23/2/10 at 02:34 PM

throught my childhood, my mum had XJS's. some standard, some with the TWR kit and her last one was the lister leMans!

i say do it. they are fast becoming and iconic car and have some of the sexiest lines found on any car, ever. FACT.

morcus - 23/2/10 at 03:42 PM

Get one. I love them aswell, though I'd want BRG or white (Who doesn't want to be Rodger Moore?).

iank - 23/2/10 at 04:38 PM

BRG for me without that body kit.

Thank god ! I thought it was just me having an early mid-life crisis. I have developed a hankering for XKRs.

Yes it was

Is that one on fleabay? If so i think it may have been on there not long ago. If not, buy it! The lister XJs is WAAAAAAY better than the TWR ones imho (i beleive they are capable of 200mph!)

iank - 23/2/10 at 05:17 PM

Having had my first XJS at 34 you cannot go wrong.... well maybe

You really need the facelift model, its galvanised so should not rot as the earlier ones do badly, interior is nicer and piller less doors just feel right.

Heart says 6.0, head says 4.0 but try and get a manual one, very rare but well worth waiting around having owned 5.7, 4.0 manual and 4.0 auto.

V12 really is turbine smooth....... awesome cars

Would it pass IVA, even if you were to spend £50k on it?

l0rd - 23/2/10 at 09:19 PM

Pimp my ride style?

edspurrier - 23/2/10 at 09:35 PM

Does it need to pass IVA? It's got manufacturer type approval and was built in the UK. If it does, then it could probably be made to: engine cold probably be tuned down to just about pass, most of the fittings would probably be OK with the odd bt of rubber....

It was type approved 21 years ago, I can't imagine such things last indefinitely, though I could be proved wrong.

I didn't think any of the XJS chassis range got the galvanised treatment???
