lewis - 3/3/10 at 03:25 PM

The kit car crisis series is being shown again on discovery turbo tonight at 21.00 if anyone is interested, followed by a race car is born at 22.00.
That's all.

The bloke in that series is a c*ck. Not Mark Evans btw the other one

Absolutely agree, he gets all his 'mates' to do the work then sits back and smiles smuggly. Complete and utter to**er! Especially when it comes to getting the car out, (saying no more so as not to spoil it for those who may not have seen it )

stevec - 3/3/10 at 03:42 PM

I know the words to that series now.
Not sure he's a cock, cocks are useful.
But he's a petrol head like we are and I am sure he learnt something from his project.
Steve.

dan8400 - 3/3/10 at 03:45 PM

The series doesn't come to a proper conclusion, he fails once and that's it. If we all gave up after one failure no-one would have a kit car on the road!!

As I'm sure other people will say - he was somewhat setup to look like a 'c*ck'......BUT if you see the episode where he 'welds' in his pedal box that can't have been a huge task.....

The whole series just perpetuates the myth that all self built cars are deathtraps tbh and should be retired IMHO ...... fat chance tho with too many channels with not enough programs to show

dan8400 - 3/3/10 at 03:53 PM

Top gear perpetuates the same myth

Mark Evans? I though he was most un-cock-like to be honest. The series certainly skips over some of the trickier bits of car (and bike, helicopter, plane etc) building, but I find them reasonably entertaining and informative.

bassett - 3/3/10 at 06:24 PM

Its definitely a must watch for any kit car owner as it has quite good insight into the kit car industry and i picked up a fair bit from the builders, please note that comment does not mean the owner. Another good series to watch is the mark evens cobra build as thats a full build compared to the half built westfield although the race prep slightly makes up for it.

Yep, and 33% of the presenters on that show are c**ks too!

As for Mark Evans - while some of his and Pete Mates jokes can be a bit lame, I think that's part of the joke. He comes across as a decent fella and someone who met him at a track day said he's a top bloke.

i didnt like kit car crisis. but then it did create what the title said, a crisis. i lost interest as soon as he turned the first chassis away because the busa lump and transfer box wasnt a bolt in fit.

thought the dominator kit was pretty poor too. the two things that really drove the nail into the coffin in my book was that the chap who run the company was welding the chassis up with a clarke 151 in waht looked like his garage, which wasnt the end of the world. But when i saw the close ups on the wishbones and chassis you could see it was poor. then a suspension bracket broke off when they corner weighted the car (hadnt even been driven!!!) followed by the diff mountings collapsing on the test run.

turned out to be lots of really really nice bits on a chassis that i would have put in the bin.

i think the chassis that he turned away was an indy but cant remember now.

the bloke that was buiding the car seemed like he didnt have a clue about cars. i think he woke up one day and thought today i am going to give up work build a car and become a race car driver. the only problem was that his mechanical skills weren't quite good enough to tie up his shoe laces let alone build a car.

i could be wrong he may be a nice chap and they just cut the film to make him look clueless. the jury is still out on that one.

ashg - 3/3/10 at 07:24 PM

just read that back and it as all pretty negative.

i did like the bits where they covered race days and went to professionals that knew what they were doing.

as for mark evans. and the is born stuff yes its quite cut down but then it has to be for tv.

the best bit is that the bloke doesn't claim to know everything but clearly can work things out.

where the connection comes in for me, is that the way he works things out is just like me. using the net and people that know. the important bit is that he finds out then does it himself rather than fob it off to another company like kit car crisis. evans only gets others in when he really has to or fancies splashing out.

rant done.

AndyW - 3/3/10 at 07:36 PM

I agree with the comments that mark Evans is a good chap. He builds some nice things and has fun along the way. Remember his "real" job is a vet.

David Jenkins - 3/3/10 at 07:46 PM

How he became famous in the first place is both amusing and typical for him - he was a TV Vet on some obscure local station, and some biddy brought in an overweight cat. He was - er - somewhat blunt...

LINKY

...but getting back to the topic - Kit Car Crisis is just too painful and annoying to watch. He was a pillock, and the TV company did their best to make him look even more stupid.

Kit Car Crisis/Camper Van Crisis/Beetle Crisis are all utter crap

The bloke that narrates should be banned from public speaking for fear of boredom induced coma. The tedium is beyond compare. He should go and slash his wrists, before someone does it to themselves.

All imho - but I'm right

Christ - You're right....What an appalling narrator!!

He sounds so so bored!

kj - 4/3/10 at 08:12 AM

If you look at that bloke who is a c*^K you will see his mate turn up who is Will from P.P.C mag.
He did look like he did not have a clue can't remember him doing much to the car himself, might be wrong, i asked the question a while ago about what happend after the program and i think the car was broken up and sold.

Nash - 4/3/10 at 10:40 PM

Mark Evans is a top bloke and I love the "is born" series'.

The 4x4 is Born is a great series. PLUS I want his workshop!

The workshop in the 4x4 series not the racecar is born series that is!!!

hicost blade - 4/3/10 at 11:39 PM

A mate of mine is applying to the Discovery channel to do a Corrado R32 turbo conversion (not my cup of tea either), they have asked him to put a business plan together and if they like it they send round the crew, film it, edit it and narrate it

As simple as that

Maybe some of you 'critics' should put your money where your mouths are!! Might even be able to cover the build costs.

A locost is born, Locost crisis or in my case Hicost collection of bits crisis

I totally agree ..... whenever kitkat cries is on everyone slags the bloke off ... i wonder if he had sorted the problems out and had a few races people would view the series differently

Why? I managed to build my car (from scratch) out of my own pocket without a film crew.

If you want to do it publicly (like on tv) and screw it up badly (and publicly), expect to have the wee taken.

Cos I will take it!

I think you are rather missing the point here

The guy got conned by the c**k who sold him the car (a very bad rip off of the MK GT1) He had no idea what he was getting himself into

He was just a normal guy with an idea for going racing and would have had he been pointed in the right direction, just so happens he wanted to share/help others wanting to do the same thing, presenting skills aside

His story didn't turn out to be a sucess (like yours seems to have been) but it just goes to show they don't always sprinkle the TV magic.........

I think he has given a lot of people inspiration; good or bad (it usally inspires me to turn the TV off and go out to the garage) and for that it deserves some credit

It's also a lesson how many sharks/w**kers there are in the kit car industry selling/making/botching substandard/dangerous rubbish at over inflated prices with people still eating out of their hands.........

Would you like to borrow an equine mounting block as it seems quite high up there?
