Selling a specialist (non-kit) car..
TimC - 3/3/10 at 04:50 PM

Hi All

Looking to your collective wisdom. I am selling my much loved Alpina B10. I have it advertised on Pistonheads but I'm conscious that I'm missing a good portion of even the enthusiastic motoring population. Where would you suggest I advertise?

Cheers
TC

Unfortunately eBay is full of messers, and you'llprobably get lots of "£50 offers" for your pride and joy. Having said that, you can put it up as a classified listing, and try to avoid potential morons.

Auto trader is a good bet - magazine and online usually attract a fair amount of people, but I would have to say your best bet (in my opinion) would be a BMW specialist magazine. At least people there will appreciate it for what it is, and not view it as merely a '5-series'.

I personally sold my last 528SE on eBay using classified ad, but when I bought my recent P38 Range Rover, I looked in the back of 4x4 magazines as I was quite specific about what I was looking for.

I would avoid ebay imho, whenever I go on ebay I expect to pay less then half of what anythings actually worth, I also suspect things to be slightly dodgy most of the time - neither are assumptions that you want potential buyers to have when you're trying to sell a nice car!

Completely OT, but isn't that avatar from Noggin the Nog?

Memories.......

when I asked you before about price etc my friend ended up paying 5k for a one owner car with 100k on the clock. Its like new so a lot is to do with pricing I think.

Well then he's done incredibly well - you don't see many of those.

Good spot - I have a bit of an Ivor addiction/problem.

bloody great cars mind too

with it being so specialist the buyer will come along its just not like selling a focus.

Good luck with the sale, it looks great!

You missed off Pistonheads by the looks of it. Otherwise its got to be a specialist BMW site surely. How many of the general public know what an Alpina is??

What does the law inUK says about putting vinyl Pound or Euro signs on the windows and driving around?
I do that with my cars in Mexico and within a couple of months I´ve always had something real close to my asking price.
My 2 cents

And there is a lot of pretend Alpina's especially on E32's

Try contacting Chas C on my site (Need to register)BMW 7 Resource
He's a bit of an Alpina addict and maybe able to help
