Hello all, just wondering if anyone can recommend a reasonable (mean cheap!) garage floor covering, as the concrete in mine is really
'dusty' and looking to redo it all?
Thanks
Lee
Im considering some cheap Lino or those self adhesive tiles. Will need to seal the floor for that though.
Ive tried carpet in the past, Nice and warm, but its too dangerous really. I keep fire extinguishers evrywhere, but if youre welding, you dont know
its burning until you smell it.
garage floor paint or if the budget isa bit bigger then Costco etc sometimes have the interlocking rubber tiles. I'd avoid the self adhesive ones
as the loose ones are easier to take outside and clean off if you get an oil spill on them
"Motofloor" is the stuff Costco get in.

Sweep up the dust, apply some concrete sealer followed by garage floor paint.

If you use the floor paint style, dont use black, its tricky to find dropped stuff.
Best bet would be the grey.
Brother in law sourced some old conveyor belt, absolutely brill keeps the dust down easy to clean and warmer than concrete
Vacuum well and seal with builders diluted PVA. Paint with good quality emulsion.
Covering many concrete floors can cause it to sweat. Put a bin liner under a biggish piece of wood to see it it does sweat.
If you've got some, old carpet is great. I used some during my build, renewing it about half way through when it got too manky with oil, etc. You just need to be careful when using an angry grinder (sparks, etc.) and I can't say I would recommend it for welding on!
i am a carpet fitter so as you can imagine i have carpeted my garage .
i used a gel backed comercial carpet called samson velour.
its proving verry hard to damage
i have used angle grinders cutting ally sheet and cut the carpet aswell in the process lol but it does not set on fire as such it just melts
slowly.
as it meats all the set fire standards for comercial buildings
looks mint in anthracite
hoovers well
and its mega cheap i buy it at £4.35 per m2 + vat
i have painted mine, though i think next time i will use a sealer and then paint, no issues with dust etc and easy to find something when it falls on the floor
I'd have thought carpet and rubber matting would have been a bit of a PITA when it comes to using a trolley jack?

I used PVA on whole garage floor and walls - £2.99 mixed with water- too stop dust, then i got 2 tins of floor paint from machine mart for £6 a tin-
painted the floor and 3 foot up the wall, had some left over emulsion and painted the rest off the garage white- then i seen them rubber carpet tiles
at costco, cost £35 too do the whole garage.
Not locost but bout £50 all in for a clean, dust free, bright and comfy floor.
and if i ever need too clean the garage down i remove every thing off the floor - then just hose the walls and floor down as everything is double
sealed.
