power steering problem

with a pop it started leaking fluid yesterday and immediately had no assistance. Got a long trip to do tomorrow, will it kill the pump if i drive it with no fluid in it? Its the uber-reliable vauxhall vivaro.

Cheers!

Yes it will kill the pump if you drive it with no fluid in it! The power steering flkuid is used as a lubricant!

i know, it was all i could muster to do a 3 point turn. Ive got to drive 300 miles tomorrow.

I think the pump is dead anyway, but it definately will be by tomorrow teatime. Is there a risk of it falling apart and taking out the alternator with it?

Its going to be weeks til i have time to fix it
