Picked up an SP70 speeding ticket recently - mobile van on a bridge over the A23. Annoying on an otherwise clean license, but I was speeding so
didn't contest the ticket and paid the fine (no option of a speed awareness course).
On getting my license back I noticed that it's been (badly) handwritten on and recorded as an SP30, not SP70.
What would you do...?
Contest the error and ask them to remove it altogether.
Ask them to correct it.
Leave it be
.....?
Whats the difference in codes?? Is one majorly different to the other?
According to the DVLA there is no such thing as an SP70 and as it was on an A road an SP30 is correct. If it was a motorway then it would be and
SP50
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/EndorsementsAndDisqualifications/DG_10022425
There's no such thing as an SP70.
SP30 is speeding on public road
SP50 is speeding on a motorway
Therefore, unless the A23 is a motorway (guess not, given the lack of "M", then SP30 is the correct endorsement.
As I understand it the code simply refers to the speed limit that was broken.
i.e. SP30 = breaking a 30mph limit and SP70 = breaking a 70mph limit
Happy to be corrected on this though!
ETA....and I now stand fully corrected ^^^
I'll get me coat and put my license away then

I thought SP30 replaced SP70. SP30 is speeding on a public carriageway. SP70 doesn't appear on the list of penalty codes....

Just read up a bit on the web, and SP70 was a code along time ago so you never know but maybe it will automatically be removed at its an SP70 and they
were issued x amount of years ago.
Otherwise only sp30 and sp50 issued now.
id leave it if it makes no difference to you. sp30 is correct for a roads so they are right.
SP30 is the correct code for that offence..
i didnt know that the safty camera vans were alowed to park on a bridge, i though they had to be on the same road...

As above - I stand happily corrected on the codes (should have read more first!)
