I looked at one today and thought it could fit the bill for our new family car.
It's a Signum 2004 (04) 2l turbo.
Current owner has nearly no service history though and there's a 50k gap in the service history (7k - 57k - Needs a service now at 79k)
He said he had the cambelt done 2 years ago and at a garage I know well - but he's lost proof of that. As I know them too they may be able to
provide a copy, I'll phone Monday.
1 - Should I run a mile?
2 - Does it have a belt or chain?
3 - Could this car be a bottomless money pit?
Car seems very straight and honest but I don't want to waste money on an HPI if it's not realistic I'll buy it.
I do like the car and so does the wife and it does offer good value for money and it's local too. Currently on EGay.
What do you all think?
Thanks guys
whats the car tax £400 ?
Good question - It had a 6month disc at £128 so I'm assuming £240?
good engine very fast, nice car. didnt they used to catch fire in the vx220 ?

My pals got one and he swears by it -mind you he knows nowt about cars. No probs at all in last 2 years it's boringly reliable.
Remember I said he knows nowt about cars? Well he is a buyer and even he said he got it at a bargain price.
Moral is they are not popular so pay bottom dollar.
One good party feature, they can be driven from the back seat as proved by one Mr Clarkson (just make sure there are no trees nearby )
Ask here - it's called Vectra-c.com but the signum is pretty much the same car.

Evidence of regular oil changes with a top quality 5w/30 grade fully synthetic oil is vital on any Vauxhall/Opel/Saab made in the last ten years.
If a shortage stamps in book check for evidence of gunge under the oil filler.
With a turbo engine using fully synthetic is especially vital, so in addition I would strong recommend that you do additional oil changes half way
between the Vauxhall specified intervals.
Havoline 5w/30 fully synthetic is only 17 quid for 5ltrs from Morrissions petrol stations.
Thanks for your help everyone - much appreciated.
I didn't buy it today. The garage that had done the cambelt had never heard of the car (mentioned the garage and the owner several times - one I
happed to use myself and I know him too ) and they have never even worked on a Signum before (VW specialists). So all the "work" he had
done there seemed a little strange.
Raised this with him - Oh it's another garage and they're going to post the proof of the cambelt change over. This is a garage that's
open on a Sunday too - handy eh?
Really disappointed that once I poked massive holes in his car history he didn't stop digging!
I hazard a guess it's never had a cambelt, and it's not been touched in the last 2yrs he's had it. That and the previous 50k gap in
the service...So those crucial oil changes BT just mentioned....Unlikely too!
Real shame but also a bigger shame the seller wasn't upfront from the very beginning. Lies and more lies which sadly for him tripped him up!
Thanks all - the search continues...

There's a 60k gap in the Mondeo's services, and it's not missed a beat...
