MX-5 spares?
Alez - 31/3/10 at 10:20 AM

Dear all,

I need to get an impact sensor that MX-5 cars fitted with an airbag have at the front (bought this car second hand and guess what, surprise surprise).

I'm pretty desperate because so far I've been quoted €400 for this spare, and if I don't fix the problem quickly, the mot office will declare my car off the road (yes). I've joined some MX-5 forum at www.mx5oc.co.uk (which I'll be able to use when my account is validated) to ask for advice, is that any good?

I want to look for this spare on Ebay but I don't know the accurate name for this, "airbag sensor", "impact sensor", how exactly is it called in english?

The usual shop www.mx5parts.co.uk doesn't have it on its catalog.

Or if you know how to fool the ecu into thinking there is a sensor there, that'd be great.

Thanks very much for any comments.

Front sensor fitted to the car (plastic cover removed), it bolts to the car radiator:

Reference? (Google and Ebay returns no results for "MC58L948017019"):

Removed from car (still connected to ecu):

Called an 'SAS airbag control unit'. A quick search for mx5 parts came up with one supplier listing it but out of stock at £208.

Sorry this may be the wrong unit.

Unfortunately my car is the mk1 (NA) and the piece looks rather different. Ebay gives results for "airbag control unit", but none for "mx-5 airbag control unit".

Thanks for your help
