...if you don't have a well calibrated electronic dash that does it for you? (Like I don't)
My speedo isn't accurate enough I'm sure, then I need one hand for steering one for gear change and one for a stop watch.
There must be a better way?

What he said - I have a Nokia N95 with a downloaded app called RaceChrono http://www.racechrono.com/ It works on Symbian and Windows Mobile 5.0 or later phones. It can use a built in GPS if the phone has it, or an external bluetooth GPS.
You can use it for measuring 0-60 and quarter mile (I think), laptiming, route logging etc. and you can overlay the recorded tracks onto Google Earth.
sorry to hijakc a bit, anyone know an app for 0-60's etc for sony ericssons? its a w995. cheeeeeeeeeeeeers
GPS is still not accurate enough (especially on a smart phone)
If you want an accuarate test, wait till TRAX or another show that has proper 0-60 timing gear.
Dont get me wring, GPS gives a fair idea, but you might as well get a mate and stop watch, its going to be damn near as close!

Race Chrono is excellent, used on my XDA to do some lap timing tests but could never get a reliable 0-60 or 1/4 time compared to what had been proven
at santapod.

Video speedo with timer running on camera, calibrate by a GPS to see where true 60 is.
Just replay deduct start and finish time and make a note where true 60 is.
Racelogic Performance Box as used by Top Gear. Does it all automatically all you have to do is drive. Will do 0 to any speed and many other functions
including G force, braking times, acceleration while moving, lap times and many other things.
Just remapped my Diesel road car and I used the 30-50 and 50 -70 times in one gear as I find it a more accurate guide as there are no variable starts
gear changes etc. and tends to show how the torque moves around which is more important to drivability than a 0 - 60 time.
