So do I, but as I would want AC it would prove to be a rather expensive toy.

R-Tech do some nice toys for reasonable prices, they also offer some shop soiled ones on eBay for a discount from time to time.

TIG is great

Downsides for me are...

Takes twice as long
Not easy upside down, vertical is hard but you really need to be above the work.
Expensive to run.
You need variable control when doing ali, foot pedal or clever torch.

Upsides for me

Its more satisfying.
You stay clean
No blobs and splatter
Looks better
You can weld ali.

Since I got my TIG 6 years ago I have only used my MIG once that was for reaching into an awkward spot as I could not be bothered to disassemble.

Regards Mark

I very nearly bought one a few weeks back, but the cost of gas made me think twice. Make sure you check this out thoroughly, having to pay yearly rental on a bottle that will probably spend most of it's time sat around doing nothing put me off.

The MIG welding forum has a list of suppliers and prices, if you are lucky you might live near one of the suppliers that do rent free deals.

Thecost of ga is very expensive but if you can justify it I bought mine from RTech. They seem happy to reply to e mails and offer assurances of their 12 month shop soiled guarantee and a duty of care guarantee. They're also giving away free tig pedals at the moment which I wished I'd waited for
