My insurance runs out on may the 5th and my renewal came through today. The only thing thats change since I got the first on is I'm a year older
and have a years more experience (Same NCB of 1 year, no accidents), Guess how much its gone up by?
I've just done a quick search on Confused and got 50 cheaper quotes including 6 that are less than half, in some cases for more cover.
How do I get third party insurance for use of other peoples cars? My out going policy says you have to be 25 to get it and I can't see the option
for it on Confused.com. Also, is there a way to find out where companies base their call centres short of phoning them up?
In my experience, by the time you've actually clicked through to the insurers website, read the policy through and then realised you have to add a whole list of supposed "extras" there's not such a huge gap in price. They seem to get away with quoting the absolute bare bones prices on comparison websites to lure you in.
I know about that but my renewal is a bare bones policy with an excess of £600. I've not got legal, break down, use of other cars, courtesy car, nothing but the minimum. And my name is spelt wrong on it and the gearbox type is wrong.
You say....

Insurance renewal madness.
I know what your saying, but it was more than £1000 increase, the policy is more than double last years, was £900, its now £2300, I just don't
see how they can put it up by so much.
On a side note, my policy runs out at 23.59, but the new one startes a 00.01, does this mean I'd be unisured for 2 minutes?
my paperwork says i can drive other cars, but when you phone them to check they say no because i don't meet the criteria... 1 is you have to be unemployed. wtf?! i'm going with what the papers say anyway. not sure the foreign call centre really knew what i was asking
there are a lot of policies that no longer let you drive other peoples cars and the few that do say you have to be over 25, I totaly agree that comparason site just show the minimum cover then add the bits you need as you go through it, windscreen excess also appears to be rising to.
Most insurers will offer a better premium for a new policy than a renewal on the basis that most of us are too lazy to shop around every year but that increase is way over the top, move your policy to someone else.
This year my renewal quote from admiral was the cheapest I could find anywhere, including a new policy from Admiral! Couldn't believe it.

Ditto for Admiral...
Tried pretty hard but those guys couldnt be beat, even by additional car discounts on my bike policy / bank insurance offers etc.
Geoff
I did all the crap last week...
On a tuned Saab Turbo , renewal quoute was £497, thats over |£100 more than last years premium...(Flux)
Did the compare sites, gocompare worked best then booked up through quidco and got £70 cashback.
My premium has gone to the £300 mark where it should be..(RAC)
Im 44 , havent claimed in over 15 years.
When I rang to cancel with Flux they asked me what my new quote was then matched it...
Knoobs ! Out of principal I told them the error of their ways and why I was still leaving.
Check out quidco, only costs a fiver to join and there are some good deals about.
Good luck
I can't wait for my cancellation call (I don't remember asking for automatic renewal as its something I normally would make a point of not having) when they ask how much I've been quoted by other companies, If they can beat the quote I got from hastings on the phone yesterday (Got a quote online and then they phoned me and offered me the same policy for less) I'll stay, though I can't see them dropping the price by £1500.
