Stupid question I know. But i refer to my "going to court post"

Went to court today with wifey as the chap in question is denying leaving the scene of an accident, stating he did not know he had done it. He was representing himself (bad move unless you have a smidgen of brain power) .
Firstly says I am lying and was not there and I am a liar.

Then says it wouldnt have made a sound because his car has a plastic body so no metal bending would be heard.

Then says the pictures produced by Police were of an old BMW and not the one at the scene. (court was stopped and he retracted that statement as he had already agreed to the photos earlier.)

Also he had not seen wifey waving her arms across his bonnet telling him to stop.
If he had known he had touched the other car he would have gone to the Police and swapped insurance details.

We never stopped to hear the verdict as it was going to go on for ever due to him not understanding the court "rules".
We should find out Monday, but I m glad its done.

With a bit of luck he'll get done for contempt of court as well then

Good result!

My thoughts exactly, he could've caused you real problems if he'd got proffessional representation, his word is worthless if he lies in court and breaks the court rules.

Good luck.

lucky you that he chose to represent himself. the court outcome quite often has very little to do with the truth, but about which barister has the ability to discredit the other party the most.

UPDATE

My thoughts exactly, he could've caused you real problems if he'd got proffessional representation, his word is worthless if he lies in court and breaks the court rules.

Quite true, but to have him stare me in the face and repeatedly call me a liar made it much more personal.

Anyway, got a phone call from the BM driver.
The other chap got a guilty.
And the missus got some flowers.

Nice one

I thought it was illegal to call some one a liar in court, Thought it came under Libel and Slander.

Andi,

Good on you for doing the right thing - hopefully plonker got a huge court bill (which his own insurers won't need to pay as they didn't subjugate the case )
