CAN YOU GET OVERSIZE RING TO FOT STD PISTONS
i want 0.25mm over size pistons to fit on std pistons on a 2 stroke outboard project.
but dont know if you can get oversize rings for std pistons or can you only get over size pistons and rings.
its a dt60 outboard fitted into a suzuki wetbike jetski.
WHY WOULD YOU?
The point ove oversize is to fit an oversize bore.
If the bore is that worn the pistons are now to small!
Slap, slap, slap
i was going to hone it out and use std rings but i can feal wear near the top of the bore.
i was hoping not to rebore and try to find pistons at 0.25 or 0.50 over.as i cant find oversize pistons .
There used to be things call cords that were designed to fit on standard pistons and be used in worn bores. However I have not seen these for years
your where able to get cored rings, a quick hone and fitting these could give a new lease of life possibl 10 to 20 k on an old engine.
Would not just a new set of rings help?
Unless you can find an eqiuivelant piston and rings of the right size, from another vehickle?
Bear in mind that cylinder bore wear is not uniform down the length of the bore, it diminishes as it gets to the bottom, and is worse on the thrust side relative to crank rotation direction. If it's that bad you need to rebore. As previously mentioned you are looking at piston slap anyway if the bores are that bad...
In my karting days , used to put in the next sized ring and file the ends to get the minimum ring gap if the bore was a bit loose!
Although technically if its a larger ring it might contact the cylinder wall quite as it should.

You can order "gapless" rings in any size combo you want as they list all the sizes individually as well as sets. However if you are doing
this for cost reasons then a set of "gapless" rings will be fairly expensive. They are suppied file to fit.
Link to Total Seal gapless rings
Can you find the max worn tolerance as specified by manufacturer? You might get away with a light hone and new standard rings. You will need a bore gauge though to find out what you've got.
