I have been offered an s reg polo 1.9 diseasel (non turbo i think) which has a gearbox issue.
I dont yet know what the issue is except it is on its third reconned gearbox in two years and i have been told they think there may be an engine fault
which is causing the repeat failures.
Im trying to work out if it would be cost effective for me to repair it but dont know what the main cause of the problem may be. Does anyone have any
idea's?

Have they used the same source for rebuild on each gearbox?>
its an old car... I would just go to the scrapper and find a used box... £150 should do it...
Polo gearboxes generally are crap... I had to rebuild the one in my GTI at 45,000 miles...

I dont see how the engine can damage the gearbox...
the engine would shake like a bugger if the crankshaft was floating about.... sounds like a cop-out because they cant repair the box properly.
Ok cheers. Sounds like an easy fix
check the flywheel
my mate had an old diesel non turbo polo and screwed the gearbox and it turned out to be a fooked flywheel
