I know Zakspeed raced Capris around that time, and it does not seem to be finished off properly.
I think it's a modified in the Zakspeed Capri style.
But, good look to him.

Why would anyone spend so much time and effort to turn a passably nice car into such a fugly lump?

It ought to be "road exempt".
its not zakspeed, its a Scimitar SE4 Coupe with Ford Escort mk2 'X' Pack arches and a tea tray on the boot...
... it's the genuine article, ran a 3,1 Essex V6 with a supercharger, built by Tony Steele in the 70's for racing and was used on the road
for a short time too. Will be nice when i finish it .... :-)
