Hi all, SHMBO's mum has just got to work and an overheating light has come up on the dashboard, im heading over there around 4pm, a 'guy at
work' has had a look and said the radiators dry, and maybe its the water pump.
so, im asuming nothing at the moment but going on the info i have, with there being no water in the system its a leak, not a water pump, but if there
is water in it, then it could be the pump or thermostat.
anyway, anyone heard of any common problem with the 1.6 dropping all its coolant?
cheers, ant

I've got a puma with the 1.7 zetec. Probs no help but Detling weekend i noticed a high temperature and lack of water. Was topping it up and it was all coming out around the water pump. New water pump fixed it. Apparently its a common problem with zetecs.
It can lose water through the water pump, fairly common problem on mid 90's bmw's not heard of it from the fiesta zetec but that doesn't mean it won't happen.
brilliant, is the pump just under the alternator? its about 6 miles home in it so should be okay to drive back once topped up im guessing? obvioulsy if its pouring out then we will get it recovered.
Yeah 6miles should be fine. I just kept a few bottles of water with me incase on journeys until i could get it fixed.
That distance will be fine just try not to get stuck in traffic.
heater valve very commen and would cause a airlock and a overheating
