Weasel behaving, well oddly

05 Mondeo 2l tdci, just hit 80k miles.

Every now and again when warm starting it decides to idle at about 400rpm, and thus runs like a sack of spanners.

Just wondering what could be causing it (as knocking it off and starting again sorts it) and if I should worry about it?

sticky idle controle valve ?

jonesier1 - 2/5/10 at 08:46 AM

if your a bit quick with the key when starting,ie flicking it from ign on to cranking and back you can send them into a sparadick running where they will run like shit, rattle and idle funny, key off and restart and all is fine. The other thing that may contrbute is a worn/knackered dual mass flywheel.May pay to check for any fault codes.
EGR valves are also a big problem...

i had one like this a few months back in to ford dealer for a software upgrade all ok

our's sounded like the cam's were knackerd but turn of and restart it would be ok hope this helps

One of our company Mondeos does this. When it goes to the garage, the details say Injectors cleaned. It's a recurring thing though, so it may not cure yours.....

This is it no fault codes, no apparent rhyme or reason behind it either only when it's warm...

Will that make that weasel a wicked one??

The problem I got with a dodgy egr valve was when accelerating it would start to accelerate then die then pick up again. Very disconcerting as it makes it look like youve got kangeroo juice in the tank and people look at you strange thinking "how do you kangeroo a diesel"

And thinking back yes it would idle at very low revs around 500 rpm iirc
