afternoon all,
im here in search of enlightenment, a colleague at work has a 407 and she said that she has a warning light on the dash saying that there is an engine
fault. after a bit of investigation it looks like the potetional problem has started from a contaminated "depollution filter"??????
i searched the peugeot forum and apparently it can be quite a common fault, it comes with restrictive performance and members on the peugeot forum
were advising people not to drive about 3000 rpm as the car often goes into limp home mode.
does anyone know what a depollution does or where i can buy one from, my colleague says that she was quotes nearly £400 for a new filter and fitting
etc i couldn't believe my ears!
EDITED: Yes its Diesel

diesel?
I had 406 Diesel a few years ago where the engine management light kept comming. Tracked the fault to a contaminated fuel filter. It had a LARGE quantity of coarse debris in the filter housing that kept blocking the filter when under high/full load. Changed the filter and cleaned the housing out. JD.
Common problem with modern diesels. Usually as a result of a blocked EGR valve. It could be that a 20-30 mile motorway speed drive will clear it, as the system should perform a "regeneration."
Probably means a particulate filter on a diesel.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_particulate_filter for general details.
Yup the reservoir for fluid that burns cleans the particulate filter will be empty.
Modern diesels !!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dad had that with his 407.... its the fluid in the silencer somewhere under the car. Although his turned out to be a whole lot more and lots of
bits ended up being replaced.
That the problem with french cars... a simple problem turns into a horrendous electrical problem !!!
stick a couple of caps of brake fluid down the intake....that will clean it out
D P F,diesel particulate filter.they are part of the cat and will need a special oil injected into them every so many drive cycles to clean out the
ash..ie,regenerate.the tank of oil may well be empty and is usually filled every ? service, but it will need to go on a diagnostic machine to tell the
ecu thats its been refilled. Also a problem is the pressure sensor that monitor this system.
ps,dont get this oil on your skin.We get quite a few problems with them and lease companies dont like paying to have them serviced or replaced.
As ^^^^ the DPF filter needs to regenerate.......just set fire to it....will solve everything!!
and the fluid is expensive.

same problem with my 307 SW
ended up with a new exaust filter and 5ltr of new fluid and a pressure sensor.
£600 IIRC
you need to refill every 50K miles i belive.
the car knows how many times you have filled up with fuel using the magnet in fuel cap and then chucks a bit a fluid in every so often into the system
to regenerate filter, except when you have run out. then it will block.
common on quite a few cars apparently. probably low emmisions versions for the £120 tax.
ended up at main dealer to reset light properly.
great economy but a nightmare when they go wrong.
i remeber muttering "bloody french cars etc.."
