Eldest has a problem with his L reg Disco in that the gearbox chatters when in neutral and reverse is very hard to engage.

Garage says it needs a new box and it doesn't look too tricky, just messy.

Anyone know a good source for a 2nd hand disco box?

These boxes are very sensitive to correct lubrication.

Early boxes had issues with oil feed to the output shaft, cured by a cross drilled replacement.
Could explain the chattering. If all other gears select ok have you checked clutch for fluid or
adjustment ?
It's the only gear without synchro so will be more difficult to select.

As the forward gears bang a bit into gear I guess it may be a clutch issue.

I'll have a drive tonight and see how it feels.

Bleeds oil quite a bit so might be worth checking the oil levels.

synchro.....it sounds like an lt77 box...
