Big brake fittings
speedyxjs - 13/5/10 at 08:38 AM

I brought a new slave cylinder to replace my leaking one. As the cheapest jaguar one was 40 odd quid, i found a landrover one for 11 that looked like it would fit and it did. the problem i now have is that the brake fittings are different and all the local motor factors dont have any the right size.

A normal M10 bolt fits fine but i have 10x1mm fittings in the garage but seem slightly too small.

Does anyone know what size it might be and where i might get some to fit?

ooh what land rover is it off of? there's a size of imperial fitting which is very nearly M10, but not quite. 3/8" unf i think it is? M10x1 fittings go all the way in, but rattle around a little.

3/8UNF is the other common size yes.

3/8" unf is slightly smaller than 10mm so a 10mm will not screw into a 3/8" hole but a 3/8" fitting will be loose in a 10mm hole.

So either you've tried a 3/8" fitting in a 10mm port or you've tried a 10mm fitting in a hole which is bigger than 10mm.

Hope this helps

Other than that the next sizes up are M12x1 and 7/16UNF
