What's the beef? Everyone pegged it from the last corner to the start / finish line, schey took a place. I'm not his biggest fan but this is just Ferrari whinging!
Oh comeone, its a new rule, and he took advantage of it. Not his fault alonso lost a bit of traction and he took advantage! Fair play to Schumi!
i would say alonso was more 'off the racing line' than loss of traction and ms didnt do too much wrong!
Eh? What's going on - dont tell me they've banned overtaking or something? Linky anyone?
Damon Hill must have giggled with glee when he realised he may be able to give him a telling off
Schui may or may not have cheated but if you ignore the legalities of what he done he still causes
CONTROVERSY
.. back to his usual self; say no more
He's a racing driver and he wants to win. Alonso fell asleep mid corner and Schumacher took the position. Nothing contraversial about it at all
IMO. Alonso should have been more alert.........
Phil
I thought it was good fun move , why have rules with GREY areas!
quote:
Michael Schumacher has been handed a 20-second penalty for having overtaken Fernando Alonso on the final corner of the Monaco Grand Prix. The Mercedes GP driver passed Alonso just as the safety car had left the circuit on the final lap, and stewards deemed the race was still finishing under the safety car. Under rule 40.13, which states that "if the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pitlane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking," Schumacher has been given a penalty. The German, who had passed Alonso for sixth, drops down to 12th, meaning Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi's scores the final point for 10th.

Wow. Damon sure has a long memory then
To be fair the rules are ambiguous and with gaps in them big enough to drive a car through and that's what Shuey did.... He's been robbed...
(IMHO)
this is one of the many problems in F1.
25 runners each week, 24 cars and the biggest rule book in known racing history.
isn't there a line at the pit entrance known as the Safety Car line from wheer you can race again?
F1, clearly doesn't want any overtaking, don't think i'll watch it anymore this year unless they reverse the sanction.
Ross Brawns explanation complete with all the data to back it up was perfectly clear & concise, if the stewards can rule against that they must be
blind - I guess Damon has got a long memory.
I don't particularly like Schuey, but have to admire his guts & tenacity - a 20 second penalty is utterly ridiculous
Lets just ban overtaking altogether & play follow my leader - the race CLEARLY did not end under the safety car as I definitely watched it go into
the pits! If they wanted the race to finish under safety car the safety car should have driven across the line!
Mr Alonso was clearly having a snooze!
To all of Schui fans who believe that the stewards decision was wrong, ask yourself this question 'If the shoe was on the other foot, would you
think the same'
The passing move was executed well, its a pity that it was outside the rules.
I think that Sir Sterling Moss said one very appropriate remark about Schui -
MICHAEL SCHUMACHER has been told by Brit track legend Stirling Moss: "You're past it!"
Moss reckons the seven-time world champion has made a massive mistake coming back to Formula One after three years out of the sport.
Schumacher, 41, has just 10 points from four grands prix - 50 behind world championship leader Jenson Button.
And Moss, 80, said: "People are going to say he's past it now, which he probably is."

Oh well the shchu ( Pun) is on the other foot now that he does not have the backing of the FIA ( Ferrari International assistance)
Come on guys, we all know that the FIA will NEVER rule against Ferrari no matter what the circumstances
now. if only 'alonslow' could be given a penalty for falling asleep at the wheel.............
Here's a copy of a post I just made on James Allen's forum:
A few things I’d like to add to this discussion:
1. To those who say that Alonso was not aware of Ferrari’s view of the rules due to the fact he didn’t cruise to the end I would disagree. Alonso had
been enquiring on the radio about the possibility of attacking Hamilton at the restart and was told it was not permitted. I believe he heard
Schumacher’s engine accelerating and reacted by jumping on his own throttle and thus provoking wheelspin. Instinct would simply have kicked in.
Ferrari also tweeted on twitter that they believed the race was over before the end.
2. I agree with the idea that the cars should cross the finish without the safety car for photographic reasons but I also think that yellow flags
should have remained to make it clear to the drivers that they cannot overtake.
3. I don’t believe that Damon Hill would be trying to settle old scores. If anything he would probably represent the drivers point of view and may
well have defended Schumacher. I don’t know if we will ever find out his personal opinion, especially if he disagreed with the decision.
4. I think that a fairer outcome would have simply been to reverse the overtake and leave Schumacher in 7th but this is not a punishment open to the
stewards.
5. Alonso did a great job to get from 24th to 6th and didn’t deserve his position to be taken away from him in this way. Mercedes dropped the ball by
not bringing Schumacher in, like McLaren did with Hamilton, to cover off Alonso as he charged through the field. The vagueness in the rules should be
fixed but on this occasion Alonso should retain 6th and Schumacher 7th ( or if the penalty must stand then 12th).
All in my humble opinion of course!
Craig.
People are really missing the point when it comes to Schumacher joining Mercedes.........what he is famous for is being able to tell the team how to
get the best setup for the car and in his younger years using this to his advantage
Just as Alonso brought his setup experience to McLaren in Hamilton’s rookie year.
Another unsung hero is Barrichello who helped Brawn get the right setup (and got no credit) to win last year.
Frank Williams and Patrick Head aren’t stupid getting Barrichello on side is a bit of a coup, it will help them and Hulkenberg more than you will ever
know and you won’t hear a whisper about it.
Also take any F1 driver out of a car for three years and see how close they are to Schumacher
And I think Schumacher should have rammed Alonso into the armco where he stopped in 2006 and then given Damon Hill a Scottish kiss for being so cocky
On that note Hicost, I think it's fair to say that DC doesn't get the recognition he deserves for the hand he had in developing the Red Bull car!

Hmmm .... the way I understood it was that Schmacker got penalised because the safety car was out at the end of the race.....and the rules state that
where the safety car is out at the end of the race, no over-taking is allowed......
Schmacker did ... hence the penalty ......
Off to do a search......just in case I dreamt it ...
Fozzie
Found it! .... Linky Dink

That's what one of the rules states. But what about the other rules such as a green flag indicating the race is under way. Which rule takes precedence?
quote:
Don't know Tippy ..... I'm sitting on the fence on this one....
But......
If it's the end of the race ..... as per the linky dink.....the race can't be under-way .....the race was over .... that is, a safety car finish ... yes, the safety car pulled off...but it had to, not because it was safe to race ..as per the rule book ...
It would have been a bit odd if the safety car driver took the chequered flag and got on the podium.....

I know the stewards only have certain penalties they can dish out. But it seems an injustice on this occasion.
