tin top recalls
AndyW - 6/6/10 at 07:52 AM

Hi,

Found this whilst looking for a cure to the wife's tintop. It list all manufacture's recalls to date. So if you have a problem, and no one else can help......

Ford Mondeo, 17.2.04 to 11.3.04 models:
"There is a possibility of unexpected braking"

I suppose I'd rather my car stop at random than go flat out at random

Errr.... I wouldnt. If its going flat out, you can turn it off. If the brakes operate "unexpectedly", youre just waiting to collect an HGV or bus from behind.

Ever seen what a bus can do to a car from behind?

Oh yeah!

Apparently some of those Toyotas couldn't be turned off while it was moving, or knocked out of gear so you were kind of stuck

But the recall is Ford!

So what is the deal with recalls?

Assuming you buy a 5-10-15 year old car. At some point it was supposed to go under a recall.

Can you take it to the manufacturer to have a look at it?

How long does recall work for?

If I was asked to check if a recall repair was done I'd have a look for free at least

Also I persume a recall lasts forever, as if there's a problem with the brakes or (in the case of those Toyotas for he who has been living under a rock ) the accelerator it doesn't suddenly get fixed on its own if you don't know there's a recall and thus leave it for years

Mk2 Golfs had an issue with over-pressure in the water system bursting heater matrixes and spraying people with hot water. The fix was a pressure relief valve. The recall was in place for 10 years.

Cheers,
James

Good to look at donor parts, found one thing to check on my front calipers, although I don`t think it is an issue with mine.

Recall periods are determined in this country by the manufacturer and VOSA. The manufacturer tells VOSA amount of vehicles concerned and VOSA gives them a suitable time period to complete the repairs.

Bear in mind though that a "reacll" doesnt nessecarily mean you will get a letter to take the car back, alot of them are to be carried out during routine service work.

My new transit has just been recalled for a turbo oil feed pipe

Ford have mad a million transits and they still got it wrong
