It's happened again...
Ninehigh - 8/6/10 at 11:13 PM

Rear washer pipe on the mondeo's popped off again..

To recap it's listed as a common fault that the pipe's too short, so it pops off the joint and instead of cleaning your back window it just dumps water all over the rear right airbag (actually saw it pouring out this time!)

So no doubt it's come off at the 90 degree joint. Problem is it's not going to be a case of tape it on like buggery (as it's got half a roll of duct tape on it now) so the final option is to glue it.

Now what glue could I use? Not sure it has to be particularly flexible but it's got to be waterproof, strong and given the access I have to the area preferably straight from a tube.

Any ideas?

Thanking you all in advance cos I always forget!

Have you tried a tiny zip tie around it?

Longer pipe ?

morcus - 9/6/10 at 12:55 AM

Longer more flexible pipe glued and zip tied

Plastic joiner to extend the pipe? Should be available from aquatics shops.

Im sure i heard about this a while back and i think ford supply a longer pipe for it.

I bought some aquatic pipe to re-do mine as it goes hard after a few years and can pop off (not on a Mondeo), a 5m real was only a couple of quid off ebay.

But if you want to know what tape / glue to use, I would recomend some of that self amalgamating tape. That should do the trick.

my grandfather had a similar problem on a different car.

I trimmed back the perished pipe and extended it with a joiner and longer length.

Ninehigh - 9/6/10 at 07:18 AM

Pipe's not perished, and it's got about 2foot of extra now, it's just that the joint (where it runs up from the floor to across the top of the roof) is at right angles, so it can't really be taped or zip tied. I'll have to have a look at that silkaflex though

in the order of escalation;

refit and hope
duct tape
tie wrap
sikaflex
get the right parts

Danozeman - 9/6/10 at 09:58 AM

You must be able to get a cable tie round the pipe so its on there tight?

Ninehigh - 9/6/10 at 10:52 AM

Problem is the 90 degree joint just has the pipe slotting into it, so there's nothing for the ziptie to grip to. If anything it would make it worse as it would decrease the pressure to hold it in.

But this Sikaflex stuff looks good, which one should I get cos I've seen 11c, 22, 252 and some others?
