Anyone know anything about these engines?
My old man bought a new morgan a few months ago and it has a new 1.6 Sigma engine in it. The brochure suggests its pushing out 110hp.
Because of the way the car is geared you have to be in 2nd to cruise at 30... or use 3rd if you want to grumble along at 1800RPM!
I dont know why Morgan have used such a weird diff... that is beside the point.. if we could find a suitable replacement diff then that would be
ace...
But... we were wondering if its possible to get more power/torque from the sigma without spending silly money? Anyone know the "standard"
things to improve on this engine and where I might get a re-map?
They only produce 99bhp in a Fiesta. Getting more than 120bhp costs real money and a swap to a duratech starts looking attractive depending on the
gearbox/bellhousing.

Shawspeed are/used to be (their website seems to have been trimmed down a lot on tuning ZetecSE's) the place to go.
Here's their old information and prices for various stages of tune.

Caterham use the 1.6 SE engine in some of their cars. The available power outputs are either 125 or 150BHP. You should be able to buy the necessary
parts from them to obtain either of these powers.
You may find information on the Lotus 7 club website as well as Caterham's.
Hmm.. thanks for the links.
It looks like its already fairly high for the engine..
A better exhaust and cams +inlet might get him another 20hp.. but thats the better part of £1000+
I think the easiest solution might simply be to adjust the gearing to suit...
He cant use 5th gear at 60mph..which is just silly!
Nothing short of a positive displacement supercharger is going to net you a significant increase in torque at 1800 RPM.
Speak to Richard Thorne (www.rtcc.co.uk) who is keen on modifying Morgans
