Polycarbonate windows

Gents, some help if you would. A mate is running an MR2 (MK1) in the MR2 challenge this year and has to shed 70kg of flab off his car as this is how much over the minimum weight it is. He was looking to get some replacement alloys until he found the ones he was looking at were only about 1.5 kg each lighter than the ones he already has and super-light whels are £1000 a set, a bit ridiculous for a budget series!
I keep suggesting he ditch the 'leccy window motors but he 'likes them' as he can 'open them after a race'. Does anyone know of either a supplier of polycarbonate windies for this car, or poly window kits which you can cut to suit? They'd need sliding vents to persuade the twit to ditch his precious electric windows.
Oh, stoopid question, are poly windows M.O.T. legal?
p.s. any other (sensible/serious) weight-saving suggestions gratefully received!

Has he got lightweight seats, tintop seats are always amazingly heavy (20kg+) compared to a set of Tritons (4-5kg each iirc). Ditch the carpet if it's still in as well.

Assuming the doors open I find that a good way to air the car after a run...

There is no way you will lose 70 kg without major loss of the modcons and resale value. However there are some things you can do.

A minimal sized battery is a good start.

Strip interior - door cards, passenger seat etc.

Replace glass as you suggest.

Chuck aircon.

No spare wheel.

How much fuel does he need for a race? 1litre of fuel is approx 1kg. If he can put less in, the car will weigh less.

Does he need both seats to race?

Does he need the dashboard?

All things that can be replaced when he comes to sell it.

a lot of helium balloons.

Does the series specify a control tyre? If not a set of Avon ACB10's should help the cause.

Polycarbonate windows need to be fixed, you can't have them sliding up and down like normal ones as you very quickly won't be able to see through them.

what about fibreglass/carbon boot and bonnet?

Does he need both doors? everyone I know who's stripped out cars has welded up the passenger door and removed stuff like locks and Hindges.
Might be worth moding the head lights, you might shed some weight removing the motors.
