Help Wanted for a bit of R+D! What size is your Exhaust Can??? (Poll)
Steve Hignett - 4/7/10 at 12:06 PM

Right, I'll try again - For some reason, this site changed my "poll options"!!

Hi All,

I'm doing a bit of R+D - Can you take part in the above Poll to tell me what size your exhaust can is please?

Feel free to make a comment on why yours is that size and why you chose that one ie noise etc.

And, I know this is asking a lot, but if yould also tell me the length of the can. that would help out a lot too!!!

TIA
Steve

Can't give you the diameter Steve but the length is 500mm. We bought it cos it's a straight through race can & sounds awesome IMO

Thanks Phil...

Do people see poll entries from 5" to 10", cos I only see 5" option - this is the second time this site's changed my poll

First time I looked the options were 5-10", but now its 5 or 5 Steve Hignett

It was 5 or 5Mark Allanson a minute ago, so I deleted and started again...

Never mind, could everyone willing to take part please answer with Diameter of exhaust and length too if possible!

TIA
Steve

mines 5 lol

Mark Allanson - 4/7/10 at 01:19 PM

Mine is 10" but is a stainless one from a Passat 1.9 TDI - soon to be replaced by a GSXR1100 jobbie

Oh, and the poll is broken again

stevebubs - 4/7/10 at 06:09 PM

Hinty - try not putting any quotes in the poll; I'd guess it's messing up the site's code....

Steve Hignett - 4/7/10 at 06:16 PM

That's what I thought at first - I've deleted and tried again, but I don't think I can edit the poll options now though, can I?

Standardish R1 carbon type can (however big that is. Not much help am I??). 90 deg rolled end tail pipe welded on.
It was cheap and it does the job.
I just need two more to fit on the velocity stacks to quieten the induction noise and it will be bearable!

Assuming your R&D is about sound levels then I find that longer is better than fatter, but longer AND fatter is best.

The number of bends in the primaries has an effect too.

p.s. Haven't clicked the poll as I didn't see the point.

surely on a properly designed system its relative to the engine fitted/revs/peak torque and tube diameter?

Dont ask me about the above as I spent about 3 weeks doing the maths for mine

No it's not - I want to know the diameter and length of the exhausts most popular for reasons other than noise.....

Knowing the Dims is all I need.........

As above reply...

Sorry, my mistake.

In that case, 115mm dia x 430mm long.

Thanks Paul, is that pretty standard to what you've been producing for people?

Far from it.
In fact I've never made one of that design or size for anyone.

It's just what I made for the Lotus.
