Washer pump and fuel...
bigandy - 9/7/10 at 09:07 AM

Morning all. Would one of the generic washer pumps (the gear type ones, not the vane type ones) be okay to use as a small fuel transfer pump? I'm specifically thinking about using it for petrol and two stroke oil....

I should think that any seals and also the type of plastic used in the gears may not be fuel proof and they'd just turn mushy.

You'd be better off with a carbed motorcycle fuel pump, or a car SU type.

Whether the plastic bits and seals in those washer pumps are fuel proof is doubtfull, and you wouldn't want the motor immersed in fuel.

That's what I was worried about really. I was hoping that somebody might have already tried it, and found it to be okay/not okay.....

A carbed motorbike fuel pump sounds good though. Are they nice and small/light/easy to use?

Yes, about 80 - 100mm long 40 or so mm dia, usually 6 or 8mm in and out.
