Race Day Traffic?
peteday_uk@btinternet.com - 10/7/10 at 07:56 AM

Hi All

Off to Silverstone tomorrow for the F1, never been on race day. What time should I plan to get there? And how much traffic is there? ie should I allow an extra hour or two to get in?

Pete.

When i went, we camped in the field next to the track. Got to the track at 5.30 expecting we would be one of the first there but ended up queing for half an hour just to get to the track and all the good viewing spots were already taken.

My advice is get there as early as you possibly can if you want a good spot (probably not too bad if you have grandstand tickets though )

I would plan to arrive there today during qualifying, stick a tent up for a few hours or kip in back of car, if you have general admission tickets be at gates for 3am, stake your claim when the charge of the light brigade starts then sleep till noon in the crowd.

I used to go as a pilgrimage every year without fail. Now, it costs far too much, you can't get a decent spot without waking up well before the sparrows and the traffic is just stupendous.

I agree with richardh, save yourself the hassle and the money. Plus you can work on the car up until the race starts

The tickets were bought for me by my girlfriend (well ex actually) for valentines day. I bought her a bloody expensive necklace so I'm definatly not going to let her get away with not letting me go....
