Nightmare day with insurance, car is off the road now

The main problem has been breakdown cover.

All I want is recovery home if A) its knackered or, B) I wreck it.

Do all the breakdown companys recover after an accident?

Looking through the small print I'm not so sure now

Depends on the cover you buy, most of them (certainly the big ones) offer similar covers. the basic policy only covers roadside assistance and recovery to an approved garage or home (if local) if they can't fix it.
RAC - We'll aim to get you back on the road but if that's not possible we'll tow you up to 10 miles to an approved garage or your home.
Nationwide - they take you to wherever you were going even if it's the other end of the country
Home Start - they'll come and start you at home otherwise you need to be a set distance away
Onward travel - Hire car if yours is deaded
There are others, check the RAC or AA websites, they'll give you details
RAC offers an accident helpline, not sure what you get with that as thankfully I've never had to use it.

I did with footman james but guess its dependant on the insurer on an individual policy basis.

Have you got a Reward type Debit Card?
Some of the Debit Cards from Banks such as Halifax etc... have cover through RAC or AA. I broke down last year in my Tin Top, just rang the helpline number on the card and got the car towed home. Cost me NOWT!!

I think the question is, do the breakdown company's recover after an accident rather than a breakdown.
I have heard of people not being recovered after an accident and having to use a recovery firm and claim on the insurance, maybe some breakdown company's recover but then charge for it.

I now have the breakdown cover & national recovery for £70 which I will get £40 cashback ie £30 for a year.


Not holding my breath for the cash but so waht at that price

i have been taken home 130 miles after an accident, i was with the rac, not sure if that helps, but saved me a lot of money!!

insurance choice brakedown got me back from wales twice to banbury
and dropped my car back home when i wrote it off was only a mile from the house but still beets the police picking it up

it is only £29 a year cant go wrong

I worked for both the AA and RAC in the past and If you have basic cover it's a tow to a local garage up to 10 miles. If you have Relay (AA) or Recovery (RAC) it's a tow home anywhere in the country as long as the vehicle is less than 3 tons and shorter than 22ft... things may me slightly out of date but that's a rough guide.

My skip might not meet the weight criteria!
