I need to do a clutch change. My garage is unusable apart from storing the car and a load of junk out of the house, but my house has an open car-port with the house above it supported by a humungeous steel beam, certainly man enough to hang even a pinto from it.
Problem is the beam is a standard I section and the front face is buried in brick work. Is there any way you can think of safely hanging a hook from it with access only to one face, i.e a channel on its side?

weld something on maybe? A big lug? Probably a better idea than drilling it!

Company called 'Lindapter' will certainly have a product for the job- web search for Uk stockists

I would either weld to it.... or get two chunky steel plated and use them to make a clamp on the flange of the I beam.....

The I beam flang is usually slightly thicker at the join and tapers down at the edge, so clamping is a bit risky, there is a tendency for the clamp to pull off.
Steel fitters use a nail gun (not the light domestic ones) which can be hired or the easier option is to drill the beam and fit a large exhaust U clamp.
