hi all, i went to my local supermarket petrol garage today, filled up the jetski, and then filled up a plastic fuel jug, but before i filled it up fully, the pump got stopped and had announcement made the jug i was filling was illegal, i has relay annoyed because it has 2p off making it around number

so, i screwed the cap on, and cover up the jetski, and went in to pay. this is a women how has now stopped my around 5 times filling up the kitcar, until i prove my age to her, now one else how work there does it.

and she said it is illegal, i said well it is deigned for use of petroleum, she said well it does not look right to me( she is sitting around 40 yards away) how can she see markings on it??

i use to use 20liter ex army ones, but the amount off red oxide got in to the carb filters was bad.

but, me and my family may just use a different fuel station now any way, because, just between my family we spend a lot off money a week in fuel from this petrol station.

Can't open the link on my phone, but if its more than 5 litres, i think its illegal to fill at petrol stations

ah, bugger it is 20 litres, 5 would be useless, the 20 will only last 30mintues cursing, less a WOT .

i did look around the web, but it all seems nothing write by the government

Typical jobsworth - been on one too many training courses. Unfortunately you are only allowed to dispense 5 litres into a suitable container. Most garages I use don't bother and I fill my big MOD jerry easily.

Never had a problem filling my 20 litre jerry can. How do they expect people to race or do track days if you can only have 5 litres

Saw one the other day, cannot remember which supermarket it was, but sign said only the forcourt staff could fill your 5 L containers and 2 allowed to be filled.

Why would you have to prove your age to them? you only have to be 16 to buy fuel from a pump, and 17 to hold a class B lisence? If its the same employee ever time I'd write a letter of complaint mentioning their name. You might get something out of it.

I use the supermarket almost exclusively for fuel so I'm intrested in this additive stuff also. My old 205 ran quietest on premium unleaded from tesco.

hi, cheers for the advice, yep same employee, only when i drive the kit car or have the jetski, never when i am in the saxo.

so i am interested now, should i be going to bp or shell, for fuel for the jetski, the saxo and kit car (pinto power)can keep the supermarket fuel.

as well, so it i am allowed 2 5 litres containers, well track days and racing events will take ages to stock up enough petrol for.lol

Make a formal complaint and then just get your fuel at Shell from now on. Better quality fuel and in my area it is just as cheap as supermarket fuel.

i would have told her im not going to buy it then you can have whats in the container back ,where do you want it .

or let me fill it or take it back.

2 5 litre plastic cans or 1 10 litre metal can, must be designed to store fuel and have the correct markings. If the petroleum officer catches them letting you have more than this or into the wrong cans the petrol station could be closed down but usually they get a hefty fine.

i have been using the big metal green 20 litre tanks for karting for years. Never had a problem.
Just go somewhere else!

This might seem an odd question and a little bit off the main topic but can you buy petrol from anywhere other than petrol stations? That is, is there somewhere that could legally let you buy as much as you want in containers?

Iirc the rule is 5l from a plastic can, but if it's E marked I say f**k em

Along with the jobsworth asking for ID. I'd deny having any and then when they can't serve me walk off. Watch how quickly they decide you're old enough when you're walking away with £30 of petrol that they wouldn't let you pay for!

I thought I would of have a problem at Tesco's last week, I filled up 3 20l jerry cans as I am sure they have had issues before, but this time they just let me do it.

I think it helps if you stay close to the pumps so that they can't see you

We fill up our metal 20l cans for work at our local shell. I usually take the van and just fill them up through the side door. I have taken the flat bed and filled them up on the bed, I also had just a plastic tub (distilled water) and nothing was said.

I asked at my local tesco before filling up and they said a 20 litre jerry can was fine, they said as long as it's good quality then it's fine to use.

i refuse to use supermarket fuel its crap and these days no cheaper than shell.

even notice the difference in fuel in my derv tintop
