Banngernomics advice..

Hi Guys

Fort the last two years i have been driving round an X plate fiesta 1.25 zetec to work (50 mile round trip). It has now done almost 100k, It cost me £600 and I have only put tyres and a coil pack on it in that time. It has a/c but apart from that it is pretty basic.

I have just aquired an S plate KA for next to nothing with 68k on the clock, the bodywaork is VERY good for the age with only a couple of rust patches on the sills that will need patching up for the next MOT (It has just passed the MOT today).

I am debating using the KA for work now but am unsure of how it will be to drive at motorway speeds?

Does anyone here commute in a KA on the motorway who can give me their experiences?

This will decide wether I sell the KA or the Fiesta!

Ta!

A KA is just a Fiesta in a jumble sale frock - just take your pick

Just a personal preference but I find the fiesta nicer to be in.. and if it's been so reliable so far, that's a good indication it'll last a good while yet (as long as you stay on top of oil changes etc.)

The KA is a pregnant fiesta

A few years back we had 20 KA's as courtesy cars, a few had 185 60 14 tyres and handled 20x better than the ones equiped with 155 70 13's

Fiesta has renowned 1.25 zetec, modern engine.
Ka has aging 1.3 valencia pushrod from the Anglia era.

Expect tappet city at 70mph, sell Ka to a girl who drives round town and keep fiesta IMO

Ka is a great little car, surprisingly comfortable on long journeys, good fuel economy, looks good still. Engines are no great shakes to be honest but get the job done in a small car. Had one in the past and would have another one. Great little daily driver.

PS I thought the Ka engines were a Kent derivative not a Valencia.

Sell both and get a proper car

Valencia is a derivative of the Kent....and I believe the Ka engine is a derivative of the Valencia...

Keep the Festa and out the girlie Ka

PPS KA's have the Endura engine

GMPMotorsport - 6/8/10 at 07:17 AM

quite like my KA

Ka is a Fiesta with a smaller bodyshell on top. They were made in the same factory on the same production line by the same people using the same parts.

I'd keep the one in better condition (that will last longest) but failing that, the Fiesta has the better engine and the most rear seat / boot space.

Endura is also a derivative of the Valencia/Kent

my misses has a ka. it is an "endura e" 1.3 engine, which is an 8 valve "kent" engine? with FI bolted on. Engine sounds fine after 60k, but there is an oil leak i'm yet to solve. drive it till the wheels fall off.

Dont get me wrong - nothing wrong with it. Each to his own and all that. Not my cup of tea, mind. But if you're even considering the Ka, you must be, er, partial to, er, batting for the other side, at least slightly, if you know what I mean. As I said - nothing wrong with that at all in my eyes, it's the 21st century. But if that's not the statement you want to make with your choice of automobile, I think you'd better stick with the Fiesta. Even that's pushing it a little.

I've lived with a Ka for a couple of months, and I commute 35 miles each way across the Dartford crossing every day - it will be fine on the motorway unless you encounter steep hills (like where the M20 goes over the North Downs), but that's only an issue if you need to accelerate - you can maintain a steady 70 fairly easily if you change down to 4th...

Good luck, and choose wisely :p

Personally, I'd go with the Ka - it will likely last longer. It is wise to weigh up how much any projected repair costs will be over the next few years.

Ka looks girly, people added an extra K for a reason (KaK).

Also by the sound of it it runs some old engine, plus you know the Fiesta is reliable.

Madinventions - 6/8/10 at 12:11 PM

Keep the Fiesta, ditch the Ka.
The 1.25 Zetec SE is a much better engine IMHO (and I've got a spare one if you ever need it!)

I don't think that's true at all; plenty of people simply don't care about the perceived image of others (e.g. me), and the Ka is great fun to drive. However, they suffer badly from rot, the engine sounds like a bag of spanners and they simply aren't as practical as the Fiesta, so I'd flog the Ka and keep the Fiesta in this case.

Oy you, I've had a Ka.
If I could find me handbag I'd belt you with it.

iank - 6/8/10 at 05:27 PM

Don't know any gay blokes that would be seen dead in a Ka.
Now Saab, Merc and BMW convertibles...
