My brother is in the process of getting a Defender bulkhead ready for galvanising. He has have had it shot blasted, but it has not removed the seam
sealer which he has been told makes a mess of the galvanising.
Can anyone tell me the best way to remove this sealer
Cheers
Steve
You aren't going to like this :- hot air gun, sharp chisel & wipe with cellulose thinners. At least that's how I've done it before - if anyone else know better ... ?
Sharp wood chisel, kevlar gloves, blood, sweat and tears...
Or Central Blast Cleaning, anyone else with an acid dip.
You could try silicon sealant remover to soften it up a bit
Use a wire brush drill bit to get the worst off, then set light to it!
Thanks for that guys, i'll pass info onto him.

Hot gun will make any kind of scraping a lot easier
Oxy torch...burn it and it goes crispy then scrapes off quite easily
Cold does a decent job, go down to your local welding supply, get a cooler full of dry ice and rub it over the sealer until it's good and frozen
(you'll need good gloves), then whack it with a mallet and scrape the crumbs away.
