Started the final build of my engine today. Got my new tin gaskets out that someone gave me (who said they didn't intend to use them) and
checked them over. There not new they've already been torqued down so are more or less useless. Jumped in the tintop and off to Rimmerbros for
a new set. Merrily torqued the first head on and started the second. One of the main head bolts at 90nm suddenly goes TWANNNNG! I nearly shed a
tear at this point. Got mad and went for a stomp round the garden. Calmed down went and took the head off to find the bolt had sheared of flush with
the block. Another little emotional moment later I was thinking about taking it to a engine builders to get out when I noticed the bolt was loose and
some twisting had it come right out with no thread damage!
Jumped in the tiptop to go to Rimmers again and buy another gasket and bolt. 20 yards down the road and warning cirens on the dashboard. STOP,
COOLANT, STOP NOW. Reverse back to house pop the bonnet, no water. Topped it up and looked dismally and the fast dripping under the golf. I think
its coming from the pump itself.
Thats put a total end to my engine building for the weekend. I am in a grump. Pah
And now the SWMBO has said, praps we can decorate the bedroom! Arggh
Oh no - I wouldn't do anything on a day like that - it's just tempting fate
sounds like a mare of a day!
what golf is it? sounds like a knackered plastic water pump, not an uncommon fault
Crikey, with luck like that I wouldn't risk going for a piss.
Rich
id wonder why the bolt broke? only 90NM and still loose in the head???
Could be worse water pump went on my last mondeo and the timing belt came loose with it. AA towed it to work and then I had to wait until missus finished work before she could pick me up.. And I still needed a new car
My comment to my wife would be,
'And after all the Sh!te that has happened to me SO far to day, you seriously expect me to START decorating our perfect space known as the bed
room. So please do me a favour, make me a cup of tea while I contemplate what to order in for tea tonight so that you don't have to cook and risk
me breaking something else.'

I wouldnt do anything else... Its tempting fate.
I have days like that.
Once I even did literally nothing, so I sat down and started (attempted) to play my didgeridoo (I'm crap really, but its relaxing fun, and is
supposed to help my Sleep Apnoea).
I broke a front tooth when it colided with the wood!
Thankfully, I just glued it back in with superglue, and it lasted several years before breaking off again, so put it back in with superglue yet
again.
Yeah... dont do anything, it will bound to go wrong. Give it a days rest and start gently on that day.
Usually for me things go wrong in threes... Did you have three incidents?
Hope all goes well, you will get it fixed eventually... Just dont give up in the long run.
The bolt was probably stretched, bottomed out and couldn't do anything else except shear
