Evening everyone,
Some of you may remember that im spraying a my van, yes thats right im still doing it, its taking some time only being able to do it in my spare
time!! Over the weekend i managed to spray the metallic silver on and i must say im really impressed with the results thanks to the advice i was given
from my last few posts.
However one thig that has realley pee'd me off is in a couple of places it started to wrinkle or cracking on in about 3 areas all where i has
used etch primer i only found this out this evening from doing the only thing i could think of and that was to rub it back revealing the layres of
primer then etch primer it seems there has been a reaction but only in some areas not all the etched areas. at first i thought it was bad prep ie not
degreasing properly but still not sure.
So far i have rubbed back the areas with 500 grit wet back to bare metal so now im thinking etch prime again then primer then spray the whole panel
with the metallic paint, however im worried about the scratches from sanding showing through so not sure what to do obviously the primer will fill the
scratches i have just made but when i need to rub the primer down im going to need to blend it into the silver already on the rest of the panel
scratching the silver again should i finish on the 500 grit which is what i finished on before i sprayed the silver anyway,i feel i should go higher
in the grits to stop the scratches showing through but dont want it to look different to the other panels.
Any help will be much appriciated, as im really gutted that this has happend was hoping i could finish it this weekend so i could crack on with my kit
but it just seems one thing after another lately!!
Thanks Greg

is it base coat your using ?
I always use 1200 grit to finish, prior to putting top coat on, but, I am only a DIY sprayer so may not be correct. HTH Ray
