Talking at work today question is what do they do with all the cars they buy?
Anyone know.

Sell them!

Guaranteed they'll be paying under the odds buying them off people who need the cash and then disposing of them via a network of 2nd hand car dealers.

An acquaintance of mine is in the motor trade and receives weekly "stock lists" from various sources including lease companies, finance/repo companies, main dealers and no doubt people like webuyanycar.com.

I think the idea is you get a good offer on the web, then you go to one of their places where the bloke tells you everything that's wrong with it and offers you quite a bit less, then presumably if you take their offer they then move it on through the trade

They don't offer you much to begin with and then haggle you down by finding faults until either you sell it to them dirt cheap (and they sell it on) or you walk away with nothing.

And in most cases, you would get more money if you scrapped the car yourself.

I was quoted on the internet £50 quid for my laguna just after it had passed a years MOT and had 9 months tax.

No, pretty sure you can walk away up until the deed is done but it's just another way of them paying less.
WTF is an admin fee though. What else can they charge for? "Advertising fee" for putting annoying adverts on tele? "heating fee" for having heat in their head office. Load of rubbish if you ask me. They should just offer a price and stick to it.

As much as I despise the company, their adverts and their business ethics, they are in the business of making money, not a charity.

IMHO Avoid...

My mate got the same money from the local dealer and with no bother at all on a £7k Focus. (and paid within 48 hours)

i was offered £1500 for 2000 shogun 2.8tdi and sold it to the first person who saw it for £4000 without so much as hint of discount or haggle. sell them nothing stick it on ebay or the auto mart.

My Sis disposed of her nearly-new Corsa to them when she was moving abroad... they quoted higher than any garage did and they paid out what was quoted without anything more than a cursory walk around the vehicle.

I got a price from them for our Tiguan and although we didn't complete with them, their offer was pretty competitive.

Guess it all depends on what you're trying to move on...

I also guess that they're not really all that interested if 'old-faithful' has a years tax on it and a new exhaust...

they're a sister company to one of the big car supermarkets - I think it's Carcraft so I assume loads of them go there.

They offer book trade price online and then chip that price. The staff are targeted to chip the quoted as much as possible, up to 30%
Having said that the business is not going too well, they have just made quite a few redundancies, so I heard.

if its under 3 years old it will end up at cargiant and they will usually pay reasonable money. over 5 years and they will offer you nothing and auction it off to dealers.

A guy at work was offered more than Market value for a 53 plate golf TDI but despite what there adverts say they offered my £11.00 for a Subaru that I sold on eBay for £1200.

I got a qoute for my nissan primera £50 if I was to seel it privately I would get £500-£700 so they make a nice profit even if they just send them to auction...

Funnily enough I also put my friends dads car thorough....

Earlier this year he paid £1,000,000 for it (lambourgini Reventon cabriolet)
They offered £200,000..... that is an impressive amount of deptetiation for a few month old car!

Sounds about right - as does the "chipping the price down" bit.

They are in the same shared offices as my dad's company, and the onsite management want them gone as they're tired of disgruntled customer coming to the main desk who have nothing to do with webuyanycar and shouting and threatening the staff. When called to come and deal with their unhappy customers, the staff @ webuyanycar refuse to come down.

They get rid of ALL the cars through BCA, they have a computer algorithm to compare past auction records to predict what they can offer and still make a profit, that's why Rover owners are offered nothing because Rovers are worthless at auction.

I asked this question of a chief Audi UK buyer this morning who explained. The site has caused a gap in the second hand market for cars between £1000 and £2300 trade value which is the bulk of their trade group.
