while the 7 is asleep for the winter im starting my mk2 scirocco gti trackcar, one thing im gonna do is replace the glass with perspex .
Q1 will 4mm be thick enough or too thick for the side and rear windows ?
Qb as the rocco has a curved rear screen how easy is it to reproduce this shape without warping the plastic ?

General idea is to use Polycarbonate, not perspex as perspex shatters. 4-6mm is what is generally used.

Curves in more than one direction are near impossible to create, in one direction is possible, maybe if you heat it or use narrower sheet (and risk it bowing on the wider sections) you may get a curve, but the base of the mk2 rear screen is fairly extreme.

i have a vauge memory that if you warm it up in diesal it will become plyable and mold to a shape.

i only looked into perspex as its about £10 cheaper per sheet
my idea was to rivit along the top and sides then use a heat gun and scafold pipe to form the bend then rivit the bottom whilst still soft

hot air gun can be used to bend it ensure you keep the heat moving or it starts to bubble

As already advised, please avoid Perspex as it is very brittle in cold weather and shatters on impact - sometimes with just the flexing caused by trackdays

Polycarbonate is fairly pliable but I wouldn't attempt a compound curve without some serious heated former, large oven and a lot of skill.

before you start, have a look for off the shelf kits. these are available for 205s etc although the Scirocco is maybe not so widely used.

I made the ones in my 205 out of 4mm polycarb (minimum for MSA) and the cost about £45. An hour or two with the jigsaw and jobs a goodun!
