Reliable Garage - Birmingham

Daughter’s boyfriend is holed up in a Travel Lodge in Birmingham because his petrol Mondeo has pack up on the way from the North East to Cardiff. Initial symptom was a loss of power, it would tick over but had no power and would not accelerate when you put your foot down. Now it won’t start at all.

Not wanting to jump to a diagnostic conclusion from 200 miles away – it sounds a bit like a fueling problem. Either fuel pressure or MAF sensor. Or it could be ECU – or anything.

Long story short – he needs to find garage in the morning to sort the problem and will be rather at their mercy being well off patch so to speak. Can anyone recommend a decent outfit in Birmingham who aren't going to take advantage?

You can disconnect the maf to see if that at least allows it to run ok ish

Sounds to me like a blocked fuel filter. Had very similar symptoms with my Pug. For the sake of a tenner, worth as a first check.

Don't think it is diesel in petrol as it was empty this morning and filled up at Tesco since when he's done 200 miles or so. I would have thought the problem would have shown itself sooner.

Main problem, although he's handier than most yoof when it comes to car stuff he's not got a lot of tools with him.
