Does anyone know the rules regarding fuel storage? I have a Deisel/Parafin heater in the workshop and the parafin we bought the other day cost £30 for 20 litres. 20 litres of deisel here is £23.40!

I think i read a while back that it depends on what it is stored in (metal or plastic).

So 20l gerry cans are illegal if full. Always thought i'd read somewhere that they were Good job mine isn't full ...... except that means there is more flamable gas inside the container ........ hmmmm

The Petroleum Act (Consolidation)of 1928 (portable storage), states that all petroleum fuels must be kept in a metal container, red in colour, clearly marked as 'Flammable', with a screw top and not exceeding two gallons.
That rules out all plastic containers (there was a couple of ammendments around 1929 and then 1998 regarding plastic containers and tanks but the original act was never repealed) and all Jerry cans! D'oh!

If the Act has been amended then why does it need to be repealed?

20l Jerry cans are not legal, even if only half full - it's the size of the container that is specified.
