Fibreglass ones..... I seem to have some kind of memory that they are frowned upon BUT I can't remember if that's just for saloon/hatchbacks
with harness mounting points below the harness holes in the seats.... or if you have a cage of some sort with a harness bar at the same level as the
holes in the back of the seat they are ok.
I know all about the issues with fibreglass seats in terms of racing btw before any lectures on safety start
We sprint with fibreglass seats, no problem. Just make sure they're securely bolted in, scrutes don't like any movement in the seat mounting.
What are the issues with fibreglass seats in racing?
depends what they are made of ....... cheap ones tend to shatter leaving you with sharp bits of fibreglass to deal with, the Kirkey aluminium ones
tend to wrap themselves around you hindering you geting out of the car, you pays your money etc etc.
The ideal is the 'sit in a bag' foam type seat BUT not sure that's going to be ideal for my MX5...

Seriously though. Have a look at whats available for saloons that's FIA rated. There was some sort of update regarding seats i seem to remember
from the last MSA technical / safety meeting. And watch out if thinking of one of those ones that wrap round the head area as they make it near
impossible to get in and out of some cars.

Then you should have gone to specsavers then Triton as damn fine seats at damn fine prices............

"sit in bag" seat is easy and comfy. I put a thin woven f/g covering on mine to avoid the foam crumbing.
One disadvantage is you loose some of the sensation of acceleration 'cos you do not "sink" in the seat at all!

The trouble with fiberglass seats is that virtually all that are available have far too much flex in them when cornering. This then leads to
individuals bracing the shoulder area of the seats off the rear bulkhead which then leads to scrutineers getting very worried about whats going to
happen during and accident. So they then end up putting a foam in bag packer behind the fiberglass seats to support it.
In which case you may as well have just done it right first time and just made a perfect made to fit car made to fit body no flex seat for £60.

I would suggest you chat with the lads on the HSA website - who compete in their MX5 only, class.
They'll have definatly come up with the best all round solution by now as it's very popular.
I would have thought a Cobra Monaco would be a pretty good bet

My friend runs Cobra Imola 2s in his MX5 and they're surprisingly comfortable. Pretty damn light too. Not cheap mind...
