MG ZT 2.0 CDTI bmw engine only starts when it hits 1deg
i have been asked to look at a mates car it wont start as soon as it drops below zero
im going to swap the heater plugs for him later in the week but im not sure this is the problem as as soon as its 1 deg it starts first turn of the key.
it wont even start with easy start only runs for 1 or two second on it and cuts out?
i know nothing about the engine but offered to swap his heater plugs to help him out.

There is a fairly well known problem on these with the heater plenum chamber in the scuttle filling up with water and causing non-starting issues in bad weather, the cure is to remove the access panel and heater intake grill and clear the drains particularly the centre drain.

I cant say if the wiring is the same , but on my R75 1.8 k series, if the temp went below -2/3 it would not start
having spent 3months at Rover, who could not fix a 13amp fuse, i traced the problem to the fuel pump relay freezing

So i swoped it with the heated rear window relay, and never had another starting problem

The rear window never worked again, and Rover could not fix that either !!

haven tryed that yet but will try it on monday its down at my mates bodyshop .

nope not that no water in the scuttle the ecu and pollen filter were dry.

im going to look at this i think there may be water in the fuel filter and its not been serviced in 4 years ,i just asked him when it was last serviced and he told me hes had it 4 years and never serviced it as hes only done arond 10,000 miles .
