Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011

Thinking of going to Goodwood next year but can't really afford the full 4 day weekend tickets. I've been trying to find on their website, without success, an itinerary of events for the weekend so I can pick the best (for me) day to go. Anyone been before who can give a general outline of what events are on what day?

Only been on the Friday personally (using the freebie tickets that were generously handed out by the Times)
BUT
From what I can gather the days are pretty much similar (in that theres cars going up the hill)
I believe there's more "stars" there on the Sat and Sun and I would assume a lot more punters

This year (just about to flip over) they had the Red Arrows do a display on the Friday
(I don't recall them being there previous years and thought they only appeared on the "big money Weekend days"?)

I don't think you could really do it all in a single day even if your a fast runner TBH LOL
Theres just too much to see and do
Being I'm a cheapskate I've had to divide my priorities over the past few years and I'm sure theres still stuff I missed completely

not really such a thing as a bad day for this event just pick the one with the best weather and
you will have a great day

I will be going again this year, as regardless of cost it is the best outing a petrolhead can have. If you follow this link: http://www.goodwood.co.uk/festival-of-speed/welcome.aspx you will find details of the whole event.

The format in past years has been - Thursday-Moving motor show. Friday-Press Day. Saturday-Public day (incl speed runs up the hill) and Sunday-Public day (but with most of the big names attending,and doing the speed runs)

Trust me- you will remember this as the greatest motoring event imaginable. try and picture every motor sport event held in the UK, all on the same day and in the same place. that's Goodwood FoS.

Year before last I managed to get a photo of 5 world champions stood together comparing notes about speeds up the hill. I love it! I'm only sorry that my first attendance was just before my 60th birthday, and only then courtesy of winning a pair of tickets from CKC magazine. I missed so many years - damn.

I am sitting here reading the recent posts and I have just read yours.

Being of a very similar age to you Bob, I have never been to Goodwood but have been thinking about going this year.

Your last sentence has caused me to become saddened - when one considers all those years and the things that we have and have not done - damn!

Just had a look at the ticket prices. Is it me or are they a bit expensive. You have to pay extra for grandstand access and
£152 to pitch a tent!! Typical of rip off Britain.

£152 is for four people, four nights, just under a tenner per head per night.
That's cheap in my book !

Well, most of them. The female was off sick, so I'd have preferred them not to bother - it looked stupid and unbalanced.

btt, Friday was supposed to be "enthusiasts day" but the whole thing is turning into a corporate day out for merchant ankers (sorry did I miss the b, or w off there), and is more and more expensive. When I first started going, it was a tenner, now it £30 ish, and they want a tenner for a programme!!!. £8 for a burger!
Will still be going, but taking own food/drink etc etc

As above all days are pretty much the same except the big stars roll in on Sunday.

This has good and bad sides as when Lewis Hamilton turns up you won't get near the McLaren garage unless you camp out 3/4 hour before but when it's Pedro De Le Rosa you can roll up at the last minute and stand 6ft away as they start them up. The track side too will be a lot busier when the stars are driving and if you don't fork out for the grandstand you need to camp out for a bit to get the best spots for the most popular cars.

From what I can remember the order is run twice a day so you could look round the pits in the morning and watch them go up the hill from various spots in the afternoon. But then you won't get to see the rally stages or look around the displays. If you are standing watching them fire up in the pits you are missing the track action so only going one day is going to be a compromise. We camped on site for three days and always had something to see or do.

It was about £150 a head but well worth it. We took loads of beer but after a full day wandering round, a BBQ and a couple of cans we were all knackered.

One of the best weekends I've had but then the weather was perfect, which helped.

A definite "must do before you die" for any petrol head.
