OK, bit of an odd one this.
I have a customer with a 98 MGF 1.8. The car has no 5th gear/temprimental 1st gear, needs 2 rear tyres, the horn doesn't work and it has an
engine 'stutter' all of which i am going to look at/sort tomorrow.
Now she wants to sell it after all the work has been done but doesn't want to spend more than £500 on the work. Im a bit worried that it may need
a new gearbox so will look at that first but was wondering if anyone knew what it was worth in the condition it is in atm.
The car has done around 60k iirc and bodywork is a bit scruffy but should clean up alright.
Iv just had a look and a used gearbox on ebay is less than £100 but autodata's remove and replace time will cost her over £400 just in labour!
TBH, I'd sell 'as-is'.
I wouldn't waste the money in trying to rectify the gearbox faults as you're unlikely to see it back.
Realistically worth about a grand as it is, and maybe £1250 if you were to really hold-out on a sale when fixed.

tbh they're really not not worth a lot,
a mate has just bought a 2003 TF, with 60k on, one owner full history, in near enough immaculate condition for £1500.
if the bodywork is scruffy too, time to sell for spares/repairs imho

98, even cleaned up and going well aint ever going to be more than £1000 worth, and thats waiting till just before the summer.
as said, going rates for an 02 in good nick is about £1500
with so much unknown possible work required, I wouldnt bother, sell as is, probably £500 and let some DIY home mechanic have a play with it.
